Sleep Study Wasn’t So Bad

Last week I wrote about an at-home sleep study that I had to do. It was supposed to be an overnight sleep study in the sleep office, but the insurance denied it, so at home it was.

Before going to pick up the sleep study equipment, I actually had an endo appointment in the same building. Very convenient, I know.

After the appointment, I went downstairs to pick up the equipment.

It was not as bad as I was expecting. I thought that I was going to have to hook up all kinds of wires and plugs and be attached to a million different things.

Nope.

It was very simple.

At Home Sleep Study Equipment

There was a recording device that attached to a clip that went around my chest. There was a finger pulse device that plugged into that and then the part that was into my nose, which was a very small cannula looking device.

I didn’t even feel it when it was in.

The instructions were super simple. When you are ready to go to bed, simply attach the clip, put the finger device on your finger, but the nasal device in your nose and look for the green buttons on the recorder and then go to sleep.

It all seemed a bit too easy.

I hooked myself up, saw the green buttons, so I proceeded to lay in bed and watch YouTube videos, which I do every single night before I go to bed. Usually not a great idea because I watch business related VLOGs and they fire me up and make me want to just go and work, so I tend to stay up later.

Sorry, that’s a post for another day.

But, I finally fell asleep. I then woke up to use the bathroom one time and I didn’t see the green lights anymore, so I can became worried.

I wiggled the straps and plugs a few times to see if that was the issue, but still didn’t see any green lights.

When I woke up in the morning, I was afraid that I didn’t even record anything and that I would need to do it all over again.

Did It Even Record?

As I drove back to the office to return the equipment, I just kept thinking that it didn’t even work, and I would need to do this all over again.

Fortunately, when I got to the office and explained it to the person collecting the device from me, she quickly checked and said there was 8 hours of sleep time recorded.

Perfect!

Now, it’s just a waiting game. As I stated in my last article about the sleep study, I already know I have sleep apnea, I don’t need a test to tell me that.

But, it still could take 7-10 business days for them to analyze the recording and to reach out to me. The next step will be to come in and do an overnight sleep study anyway so they can figure out how to treat my sleep apnea.

Stay tuned!

  1. Chris, when I did the home sleep study it returned a positive result and I asked my doctor if I needed to come in for the overnight. My insurance decided I could skip the in house study and that got me a new cool machine. Hey, you cannot beat a new machine.
