Your favorite drugstore CVS Minute Clinic is having a special this month, free A1c test. You could go to another store that you did not tell off. A free test is a free test. Anyway it is Minute Clinic, not really CVS. You sound so like me with your food and the things you do. It is comforting to read that others are like me and I am not a failure, just human.

Have you thought about the Bayer A1C kit that's available over the counter? It's about $32 I think. I almost picked one up at Target today. I've read elsewhere that the results are pretty close to lab values (~01-.02 points difference). Might be a good way to see where you're at and set targets for your future appointment.

Good luck!

Not having medical insurance for anything is horrible. People who have insurance, just don't get it. You can't do anything about what medically happens to you, and all you do is pray nothing does happen.

Hang in there, I am hoping by the time you get this, you will have heard and have something in the way of insurance to take care of yourself. Here's hoping and praying.

Just FYI - WalMart sells an A1c kit for $10 that you can do yourself at home. So there is no reason to miss the test even if you have no insurance and no doctor. Don't know what state you live in but some hospitals have a program where they arrange for free labs, hospital stuff etc and sometimes even dr services. Just for what it is worth...
