I Need Your Help – Dexcom Sensor Tapes and Tricks

I’ve been using Dexcom for about 6 months now (has it really been that long?). During this time I have been using the Medtronic sensor tape, which I had a lot left over from when I was using the MiniMed 630G and 670G.

I personally think this tape is amazing and I absolutely love it. I’m just unfortunately running out of it and I’m looking for new options. I do believe that they sell the sensor tape individually now, but I always like having multiple options.

My sister-in-law has used a bunch of different brands with my niece’s Dexcom and she has her favorites, but I want to find out all the options out there. Partially for myself, but also so that my niece can have the best possible tapes out there.

So, here’s my call out to the community.

Can you please, please, share this post so that I can get as many responses as possible to find all the different options and hacks people use to keep their Dexcom sensor on.

Thank you in advance.

  1. Before I apply a Dexcom sensor, I paint the adhesive portion with SkinTac and allow it to dry. Note, I use the bottled SkinTac and it has a dabber which allows me to apply the SkinTac without gluing my fingers together. I have also used the SkinTac Wipes and they work well although my fingers get sticky. SkinTac allows me to wear sensors for 7-10+ days with no overtape. My favorite patches are the ones provided by Dexcom. Interestingly they don’t advertise them, but they are clear and someone bigger than the sensor adhesive patch. They hold well and are one of the few overtapes that are easy to apply one-handed to back-of-the-arm sites. They are free and in order to get them, you call Dexcom tech support and tell a story about your sensors falling off. They come in packages of 10.

    1. Laddie,

thanks for your comment. I didn’t know that about Dexcom. I’ve yet to call in to Dexcom when sensors have fallen off because it just seems like such a time waste, even though I know I’m getting something out of it. This is great information to know. Thank you!
