I totaly agree with you. I makes no sense. I have searched the online companies. The retail on there product is so much less. I feel that pump supplies would be the same as a syringe. A syringe adminsters insulin. It is covered under pharmacy. Infusion lines are used to administer insulin. It is covered under durable goods. To me they are the same. Also, only recently did I ever hear of a maximum annual durable goods.

You have to be a rocket scientist to understand the whole insurance thing.

Have you checked out dental schools in the area? Might be a good stopgap for routine cleanings, etc. if you can't get to the dentist more often. They run a low-cost clinic at one of the bigger universities up here which was great when I was a poor student.

Good luck!

I want to start an advocacy program for cheaper test strips and supplies in general. I am calling it RED THURSDAY. I would like to know would you mind coming together and start a plan of action? I think the community is being taken advantage based on our need for these supplies and test strips.

Please let me know something
Thx

Yes, the cost is outrageous! I have to pay $600 every 3 months with 2 kids with Type 1 Diabetes. That's with insurance paying half of it. Totally insane!

Here. here!!! I have LADA, the use of insulin requires that I stay on top of my Blood glucose lever, it is life or death. So why do I feel like you are committing highway robbery every time I go to buy strips? In order for a diabetic to be healthy they must test, if they don't test and their sugars are out of control, out of control blood sugar causes the expensive complications associated with diabetes--preventable complications. Help us stay healthy, lower the price of these test strips!

Thanks for the comment Susan. Way I look at it, being a prick is a pre-existing condition also, so maybe some of these customer service reps shouldn't get coverage either.

Thanks for your comment Michael. I have asked for a Certificate of Continous Coverage from all of my insurers as well, it was one of the first things that I was told by a d-blogger way back when. I appreciate the advice.

Thanks for your comment Shannon. I was very afraid of the costs of Cobra when I knew I was going to have to pay for it. Fortunately, Mr. Obama signed some bill, don't remember the name of it off the top of my head, but basically, it requires your former employer to pay 65% of your monthly costs. So, long story short, I am paying just over $100 / month for insurance. I can't beat that at all.

I'm so used to not speaking to friendly customer service reps either, so it is very weird. I was very lucky for 3 years to not have to pay for supplies really, so I wasn't too sure how it was. I'm not going to stress about it at all because I know in the end it will all work out.

Your COBRA cost includes the amount of money your former employer was paying for you.
Generally, you start paying the first month after you are terminated, for example, if you are terminated on Dec.3, your first payment would be due Jan. 1.

Don't allow a lapse in coverage, because when you start insurance again, the pre-existing condition clause kicks in.
