Reflecting on Direction of my Blog

Blogging two days in a row, wow you would think that I’m used to this!  Well, I am and it sure does feel good.  It feels good to get up every morning and type a blog post with a hot cup of coffee, and no snow, sorry people, I do live in Florida.  Over the last two months I had a lot of time to think about things going on in my life and what things can be eliminated and which I need to spend more time on.  Obviously the number one thing that I need to spend more time on is my health.  I also plan to start spending a lot more time on my book.

Then I came to think about my blog.  When I first started blogging I had no idea what was going on, I was just typing how I felt and about the things that were going on in my life, hence the name The Life of a Diabetic.  I began to think that a lot of my blog posts were, well, useless.  They didn’t talk about anything, there was nothing exciting, why would people want to read a blog about nothing at all.  But then I realized, it’s a blog about my life with diabetes, so not everything is going to be exciting and fun and interesting.

So that is exactly how my blog will continue to run, with a few additions.  The main addition is that I will be discussing some more controversial topics and creating discussions for your feedback and responses and dig into current events.  The other thing that I am going to do at least once a week is a spotlight on somebody doing something good for diabetes. It may be from a news article, or a blog post, or a tweet, anything.  I think it is always good to continue to spotlight those that are doing something great to support the cause of diabetes.

Well, I hope everyone has a good day today, it is going to be a long, busy, hard day for me.

Start A Revolution

I was hoping this new year would not start out as hectic as the old year ended, but that hasn’t been the case. I have still been on the go or working for about 12-15 hours throughout the day and it is still taking a big toll on my diabetes control. Over the last 3-4 months I have had only a handful of blood sugars under 200, that is not good at all. It is mainly due to lack of testing and eating out all the time and no exercise.

Lately I have been eating better and getting as much exercise in as possible, but still not to the proper levels. Amanda and I will be moving to a new place together at the end of the month, so I think that will help calm things down after the first week or two of moving.

I always tell people, stop bitching and start a revolution, well it’s about time for me to stop bitching about being overweight and not fitting into clothes and not having good bg numbers, so it’s time to start a revolution.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Camping Trip

Happy Monday to everybody.  I went camping this weekend and had a pretty fun time.  I didn’t get to catch as many fish that I would have liked to, but I at least made it out onto a boat and went on a nice nature viewing ride through the Loxahatchee River in Florida.  We went to this place called Trapper Nelson’s, which is a very interesting story and place and I highly recommend it if you are ever in the area.  Other than that, there were the normal diabetes precautions to take while camping.

I made sure that I packed enough supplies for the trip.  Normally, I go through a few infusion sets because it is hot and you are outside the entire time, so you sweat a lot.  Fortunately, this trip was the complete opposite, it was pretty damn cold, especially during the night.  My blood sugars were pretty good throughout the whole camping trip.  A few highs here and there, but they were all fixed quickly.  The worst part is having a high blood sugar while camping, especially at night.  If it is too high, and you start to pee frequently, you have to try and get in and out of the tent several times during the night without waking up the others in the tent with the loud ass zipper noise.

Out of the times that I have camped since I’ve been diabetic, I think that diabetes is a fire side topic every time.  I enjoy that because it gives me an opportunity to educate people on the subject of diabetes.

Well, it is the start to another very long week.  The Eagles lost in the play-offs so I’m disappointed about that, however, busy work schedule, and Amanda and I just signed a new lease for a new place, and so it will be time to start packing everything up and moving again.

Have a great day.

Back to Blogging

Well, this sort of feels a little weird, logging into WordPress and posting something. If you were all wondering if I gave up on blogging, the answer is no. November was a very stressful month, especially with completing the NaBloPoMo. There were additional things that were just taking up all of my time, work, work, work, and a lot of plans on the weekends just did not allow me any time to relax and be stress free. So, I made a choice that in December I was not going to post anything or tweet at all and just take a breather and give myself that extra needed time. Unfortunately, there was still no down time at all. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if I was blogging as well.

Since the last time that I posted anything on my blog I have decided to move again, I slept at an airport, I attended the first Tuesday night football game in who knows how long, visited my family in PA, and started working out at a new gym. Tonight is the Orange Bowl in Miami so you know I will be there for my Hokies, so I don’t have much time to blog today, so I will get into some of these subjects later on in the week.

But, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive and I haven’t given up on blogging, I just needed a month off and I feel somewhat refreshed, but feel that I am able to create some more time to blog once again.

I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas and New Year and look forward to reading the 3,000 + Google Reader list to see what everyone was up to.

Another NaBloPoMo Completed

So today is the last day of NaBloPoMo.  I had some difficulties with my blog earlier in the month with my scheduled posts not posting.  It is very difficult to post every single day by actually writing a blog post every single day.  There is no way that I can do that.  I have to write posts and then scheduled them either weeks or days in advance.  The issue that I was having at times was the when I wrote them on my phone, and scheduled them, it wasn’t syncing with my wordpress account and then it didn’t actually post and I don’t check my blog every single day, even though I should, so I didn’t notice it at times.

But today is a celebration post, I did it. And that is that, so I am off to start with trying to continue this blogging into December.

Have a great day.

Flying Home Tonight

I am writing this post on my iPad as I wait for the rest of my family to get to Olive Garden for a little lunch before I have to fly back to Florida.  So that means all the flying check lists have to be done again.

My posts will be back to normal length on Monday, so have a great weekend and great week.  Finish November off strong.

Black Friday Shopping

This may be one of my shortest posts all year long.  It is Black Friday and it is 5 a.m and I am in line at Target writing this post.  Buying a tv for my parents and some other little items for other family members.  I am always worried of what my sugar is going to be on this day because I am on the go until about 3 p.m. and just eat crappy, unhealthy food from one store to the next.

Well, have fun wasting money today people.

Holidays Back in Pennsylvania

Wow, I can’t believe that I am back home in Pennsylvania right now.  Yesterday was a very long day.  Up at 7 a.m. for work, at work until 5, then home to get my luggage, back down to the airport, flight at 9:30, land at 12, drive home and in bed at 3 and wake up this morning at 9:30.  It has been an extremely long 24 hours, but that’s what goes on during the holidays and traveling right?  I am excited to get the day started today though and go see some relatives and family that I haven’t seen in a while.  I’m excited to see my niece again for only the 3rd time since she was born a year ago.  It kills me to say that I’ve only seen her 3 times, but it’s just the way that life is right now and there is nothing that I can do about it.

I have no specific plans for this trip home because I just like to relax and spend time with family and be lazy.  When I do come home now, I am not home for a long period of time, so there is too many people in my family to see within that amount of time.  So, speaking of that, it is time to get started on the day.  Mother is already yelling at me to get ready to go get last minute items for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.

Have a great Turkey Day tomorrow everyone.

Seriously, Still Only Diet Coke

I know that I posted about something like this about a year ago and it has not changed. I went out to eat recently and I asked if they had anything other then diet coke that was diet and they said unsweetened iced tea and i said what else and they had nothing other than water. What is it going to take to get a diet orange soda or diet root beer or diet sprite or diet anything else?

There are a few places that do offer it and i eat at these places a lot more frequently then I do places that don’t offer anything other than diet coke.

I don’t want to get too much into this again because it is going to irritate me and i am flying home tonight so i want to be in a good mood.

Have a great rest of the week. I am really trying to post everyday so I hope i can still get some done while being at home.

Diabetes on a Plane

So as I was discussing in my post yesterday i am flying up north for Thanksgiving. I also talked about having meetings with diabetes recently as well. These two posts are similar because im both cases you are kinda stuck somewhere and if your blood sugar goes low them it could be very scary. And on the other side, if my sugar is too high hen i could have to get up and go to the bathroom about 100 times during the flight.

Before flying I try not to drink a lot of water or eat something that can possibly raise my blood sugar within the next 3 hours. I test my sugar about an hour before the flight to make sure i don’t have to make any changes and then i will test it again quickly when they make the announcement that they are getting ready to board. This is my chance to make any last minute changes before getting on the flight. Once on board I make sure that I have plenty of candy, usually 2 bags of skittles and some other little things like pretzels.

Once on the plane I don’t usually test my sugar at all. Its too much of a hassle usually to try and get the meter out and test.

Agh, the more that I blog about flying and going home, I jut want that time to come for me to get home and see my family. I haven’t been up there since July and that was for only one day. I haven’t spent more than a day there since last Christmas. I I’ll only be there for a few days this time and then its flying right back to Fort Lauderdale right afterwards.

Well have a great week everyone
